SACRAMENTO, United States – Thirteen women-led tech startups have been selected for FourthWave’s 2025 accelerator program, a 16-week initiative offering tailored mentorship, leadership training, and funding preparation, the non-profit announced.
Since its inception in 2017, FourthWave has supported 70 women across 60 startups, with alumni securing over $150 million in funding.
“Women are starting businesses at three times the rate of men but receive just two percent of venture capital,” said Cheryl Beninga, FourthWave’s co-founder. “Investing in women drives economic growth and reduces inequality. Our program is designed to break down those barriers.”
This year’s cohort, which includes one UK-based founder, spans diverse innovations: from AI-driven patient care and healthcare solutions for medical students to biodegradable materials for marine industries and AI-optimized urban planning tools.
Other startups focus on smartphone-based stress relief solutions using biometrics.
FourthWave’s impact was evident in 2024, with alumna Sue Mecham of NALA Membranes clinching a global innovation prize in desalination from Saudi Arabia, and Dr. Amy Yee of Cha Therapeutics securing a $450,000 grant for breast cancer research.
The accelerator continues to empower women entrepreneurs to address global challenges and attract critical investment.
