Visitor Guard, a US-based travel insurance provider, has released a comprehensive guide aimed at helping international visitors navigate the country’s complex and costly healthcare system.
The 2026 Visitor Insurance Guide targets families, seniors and students traveling to the United States, where medical expenses can prove financially devastating for uninsured foreign nationals.
Healthcare costs in the United States remain among the highest globally, with a simple emergency room visit averaging over $1,000 and hospital stays often exceeding tens of thousands of dollars. Unlike most developed nations, the US lacks universal healthcare coverage, leaving visitors particularly vulnerable to unexpected medical bills.
“Many visitors come to the US unaware of how expensive medical care can be,” said Chiranth Nataraj, owner of the Virginia-based company. “Our guidance delivers the clarity and reassurance families, seniors, and students need before stepping on a plane.”
The guide addresses policy selection, pricing, provider networks and claims procedures—critical information for the growing number of international travelers to America. In 2024, the US welcomed approximately 67 million international visitors, according to the National Travel and Tourism Office.
Visitor health insurance remains unregulated in many aspects, with coverage varying widely between providers and policies.
